An Investment Market Update:

The Global Financial Crisis (GFC) has adversely impacted on the investment performance of MTAA Super's investment strategies with negative returns for the financial year to date (31 March 2009) for members in all but two of its eight investment options. The Fund has long followed a strategy of investing a substantial proportion of members' funds in unlisted assets, such as direct property, infrastructure and private equity, which provide some degree of insulation from the panic that has been gripping listed markets.  This strategy has served the Fund and its members well for the past twenty years but the prolonged GFC has led to downward revaluations on some of these assets which is currently being reflected in negative crediting rates. It has also resulted in at times quite significant divergences between the strategic asset allocation and the actual asset allocation of the Fund's Pre-Mixed investment options.
