INVESTMENT OPTIONS

MTAA Super members can choose from a mix of investments in different asset classes.  You can choose between our professionally selected Pre-Mixed Options, or the My Choice Options; alternatively you can choose a combination.

Members have seven superannuation investment options to choose from:

The Pre-Mixed Options

The My Choice Options

Conservative
Balanced
Growth
Target Return*

Australian Shares
International Shares
Diversified Fixed Interest
Cash

*Please note: From 1 May 2011, all new and existing members are no longer able to make new investments (including contributions and investment option switches) into the Target Return Option.

Pre-mixed option asset allocation

The Pre-Mixed Options (Balanced, Growth, Conservative and Target Return*) are spread across different asset classes. The actual asset allocation for the Target Return is rebalanced to reflect its respective strategic asset allocation. However, the actual asset allocations for the Balanced, Growth and Conservative Options will not always align with their strategic asset allocations.

You should also be mindful that the actual asset allocations for the Balanced, Growth and Conservative Options may differ from their strategic asset allocation because of market fluctuations from time to time, new investment opportunities and irregular levels of cash flow. For example, when the share market falls, the proportion of the allocation in the Balanced Option to equities will decrease and the allocation to other assets classes in the option will correspondingly increase. While the Trustee seeks to ensure that such variations between the actual and strategic asset allocations for the Balanced, Growth and Conservative Options are managed within the ranges, in times of extreme market volatility the divergence between the actual and strategic asset allocations can be quite significant.

The most recent weekly actual asset allocation figures for the Balanced, Growth and Conservative Options are avalable on the MTAA Super website, or by contacting MTAA Super on 1300 362 415

The actual asset allocation for an investment option is used to determine the crediting rate for that option. The investment option crediting rate is determined by multiplying the actual asset allocation for the investment option by the net asset class returns of the Fund.

For further information on the Fund’s crediting rate process please refer to the crediting rate information or contact MTAA Super on 1300 362 415.

The pure Market Linked Portfolio options are International Shares, Australian Shares, Diversified Fixed Interest and Cash. The actual asset allocations of these investment options reflect each of their respective strategic asset allocations.

Making an informed choice

There is much to consider when making decisions about superannuation and MTAA Super wants you to be well informed. We can help you with information and general advice, but we recommend that you also seek professional advice. As an MTAA Super member you have access to fee for service financial planning advice through Industry Fund Financial Planning. Contact us on 1300 362 415 and we'll put you in touch with a financial adviser.

These options allow you to allocate your superannuation money across a mix of some or all options or just one option. When you make your choice, you can then decide whether this choice applies to one or both of the following:

  • existing account balance; and/or
  • future super contributions including rollovers, salary-sacrifice, and voluntary contributions.
