Frequently Asked Questions For Members

Answers to some frequently asked questions are below. If you would like to speak to someone about your superannuation, contact MTAA Super on 1300 362 415.

How can I keep track of my super?

You can keep track of your super account online with SuperSite, which is easy to use, secure and protected by a PIN of your choice. To register for SuperSite, call us on 1300 362 415 to obtain a PIN. Once you have registered you can do the following:

What if I change jobs?

You can keep your superannuation with MTAA Super when you change jobs.  If you would like your new employer to pay Superannuation Guarantee contributions into your MTAA Super account, simply complete the Notification to employer: choice of fund form in the Member Handbook and give the completed form to your new employer.

What happens if I leave MTAA Super?

If you decide to transfer your benefits to another fund you must complete a rollover form, which will be processed within 30 days of receipt of all required information. Conditions apply as to when a transfer of your benefit to another superannuation fund can be completed. Additional information may be required in the case of transfers to self-managed funds.

Is there any protection for small account balances?

Yes. If your account balance is under $1,000 at the end of the financial year it will in most cases be protected by law to ensure that administration fees do not exceed investment earnings applied to your account. This is known as 'member protection'.  Your account balance will be affected by:

During a poor investment period (when the Fund's total administration costs exceed the total investment return to be credited or debited to members' accounts) the administration fee charged to such 'protected' amounts will be an amount equal to the investment return credited to your account plus an amount of up to $10.

Accounts that have a balance of less than $1,000 and have not received an employer contribution for more than 12 months can be transferred to AUSfund (Australia's Unclaimed Superannuation Fund)

What happens to my account if MTAA Super loses contact with me?

MTAA Super is now required to pay the Australian Taxation Office lost member accounts with balances of less than $200, and lost member accounts which have been inactive for a period of five years where MTAA Super is satisfied that it will never be possible (on the basis of the information reasonably available to MTAA Super) to pay the account balance to the lost member.

If your account is transferred to the ATO you will be able to reclaim it from the ATO at any time. For more information about how to search for unclaimed moneys or lost member accounts go to www.ato.gov.au or contact the Australian Taxation Office on 13 10 20.
